Theory of Writing

December 15, 2021

I finally decided to write what the theory of writing means to me

The freedom of choice is how I describe the theory of writing. You can express your opinions and thoughts without fear of being judged I might also add that the ability to be creative, disciplined, and able to write coherently is part of the theory of writing. In writing, you can design any character with the personality you desire. I had no idea what the theory of writing was before. It seemed as if you were only writing to prove a statement. However, it turned out that it was more than just writing; you also needed to be organized, have a decent writing style, and ensure that your writing flows. You must grab your audience’s attention and interact with them in the proper manner. When you send a text to a friend, you do not however think about what to text them; instead, you simply type. You understand how to speak with them, how to use the appropriate words, and how to get their attention. When it comes to the theory of writing, you do the same thing. You should be free to articulate ideas.

Before coming to this class, I had never considered or heard of the theory of writing. I wasn’t assigned many essays in high school, and the ones I did write were mostly plain and simple. I was unfamiliar with all of the assigned assignments for this course. I’m glad I was unfamiliar since it gave me the opportunity to learn and grow. It aided me in learning different styles of writing and allowed me to get a better idea of what writing theory is. In the first module, we had to write a rhetorical essay in which we had to compare the rhetorical circumstances of the four texts that we chose. In my opinion, It was always simple to compare and contrast. This assignment taught me how tone, stance, median, and genre affect the audience. I was assuming the role of the audience, and each source made me feel differently based on the author’s style. As a result of this assignment, I now understand that the style and words you choose have a significant impact on your writing and audience. You can bring up a scathing subject and write about it without offending others with the correct tone you use. In comparison to the other two modules, the research essay in Module 2 was one of the most difficult essays. I had to cry over this assignment. Despite the fact that it appeared to be a straightforward and obvious essay, I was unable to complete it. I assumed I understood the assignment, but I got lost halfway through my essay. It was difficult to find references and it took a lot of time. This module taught me that every research or experiment topic you’ve read takes a long time to complete. Before reporting facts, the author had to conduct an extensive investigation. Many of the articles and blogs we read are authored by people who spend the majority of their time and energy on their writing. As a result, we must value each piece of writing we encounter. Writing is more than merely scribbling down whatever comes to mind. People took the time to write and revise their work so that others could comprehend it better. Module 3 was simple and straightforward, and it provided me with an opportunity to innovate. I was able to select a genre that was appropriate for my topic and intended audience. I needed to consider how I could capture my audience’s attention and how my issue could appeal to them. This subject taught me that I need to keep in mind not only who my audience is, but also how my writing will reach out to them. It could be via text message, email, or a social media post, for example. Module 1’s rhetorical essay remains my favorite assignment. This was the first essay assignment for which I was able to understand what the theory of writing represented to me.

The most major influence on my writing theory was simply writing. I discovered I overthink things before I write what I need to write. Instead, I began writing down everything that came to mind. I was aware that I had the ability to return and make changes. Writing in a quiet spot, writing in the morning, and writing nonstop were some of the minor but important impacts.

Because I am easily distracted by voices, I needed to be in a peaceful spot where I could concentrate on my large writings. As a morning person, I prefer to do all of my work in the morning and then rest as the evening approaches. However, I am prone to procrastination. This has had a significant impact on my ability to complete my projects. Another concept that influenced my writing strategy was picking a topic that I was passionate about. I learned that if you chose a topic that interests you, you would have more to say and discuss.

Many people feel that the theory of writing solely applies to English class tasks. But, in actuality, we use the theory of writing in our daily lives. Perhaps you’re not even aware of it. Even while texting a friend, we communicate with each friend differently. Depending on their circumstance ( how we can reach out to them), correct methodology to get their attention ( the use of a correct vocabulary, and their interest). As I continue to grow I will gain more experience and information, and my understanding of the theory of writing will evolve.
